DIVISION OF MICROBIOLOGY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY

The Division of Microbiology and Biotechnology focuses on diverse research areas, including infectious diseases, microbiome structure, host-pathogen interactions, microbial biotechnology, and more. Collaborating with clinical departments, DMBT aims to understand microbial roles in health conditions and combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR) by identifying new approaches. The vision is to advance research-based knowledge in Microbiology and Biotechnology, leading to innovative strategies for preventing, detecting, and treating infectious diseases. Objectives encompass multidisciplinary research expansion, translating scientific discoveries into diagnostics and therapeutics, human resource development through academic programs, and establishing Next-generation sequencing facilities for advanced microbial genomics research. Expected outcomes involve generating knowledge, developing industrial and societal products, mentoring talents, providing skill training, offering consultancy services, establishing collaborative research programs, setting up AMR repository and surveillance programs, and exploring microbial resources for biotechnological exploitation. DMBT seeks to become a state-of-the-art research facility through cutting-edge research and collaborations, promoting start-ups and addressing societal and industrial demands. This division aspires to contribute significantly to Microbiology and Biotechnology, ultimately benefiting society by improving healthcare and fostering innovation.
